Collectible Latex Mask Care Guide

Important Introduction

  • These masks are hand-made pieces of art, not mass-produced items. Treat them with the utmost care to preserve their unique, hand-painted finish and the integrity of the latex.

Handling and Use Warning

  • Cold Weather Warning: During the winter months, shipping in the cold can make the latex very stiff. Please let the mask warm up to room temperature to regain its stretch and flexibility. This will help when putting it on.

  • Paint Cracking: The hand-painted surface may crack or wear from repeatedly stretching the latex, such as when putting the mask on or taking it off. This wear is normal for hand-painted latex and is not a defect.

  • Handle with Care: Latex can tear or crack if stressed. Be careful when handling the mask and avoid stretching the eyeholes or any thin areas.

Display & Storage

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat: Never display or store the mask in direct sunlight or near intense heat sources. UV light and high temperatures cause the latex to dry out, warp, and crack.

  • Cool, Dark, and Dry Location: Store your mask in a cool, dark, and dry place to prolong its life.

  • Maintain Shape: Gently stuff the mask when not in use to prevent creases and help the mask hold its sculpted form. Use crumpled plastic shopping bags or acid-free tissue paper.

Cleaning

  • Exterior/Painted Surface: To dust, use a soft, clean brush or a can of compressed air. If wiping is necessary, use a very soft, clean, damp cloth and be extremely gentle on painted areas. Do not scrub.

  • Interior Cleaning (If Worn): If worn, wipe the interior immediately to remove sweat.

    • Use a clean paper towel or soft rag dipped in mild, unscented dish soap and water. Wipe gently.

    • Allow the mask to air dry completely.

    • Once dry, lightly dust the interior with cornstarch or non-talc baby powder to prevent the latex from sticking to itself.

General Warnings

  • No Harsh Chemicals: Do not use any harsh chemicals, solvents, or petroleum-based products (like mineral oil) as these can rapidly degrade the latex and damage the paint.
